In August 2008, the Yuma Jazz Society was organized with a goal to promote, preserve and perpetuate live jazz in Yuma, Arizona. The Society intends to promote numerous events throughout the coming year and support events presented by other arts organizations, schools and colleges in the Yuma area.
The Yuma Jazz Society will offered mainstream and smooth jazz at monthly events and special programs showcasing local and national jazz musicians. The Society will orchestrate and promote concerts and special events for the expressed purpose of bringing national and internationally known jazz artists to Yuma. International jazz artists who the Society intends to bring to Yuma include such artist as Kenny G, Chris Botti, Jessy J, Kirk Whalum, Jazz Crusaders, Joe Sample, Ronny Jordan, Pat Methany, just to name a few. The Society will also be developing Jazz in Perspective, a monthly newsletter, promoting upcoming events and activities in the Yuma area.
The Yuma Jazz Society remains dedicated specifically to (1) assisting, (2) advancing, (3)supporting, (4) promoting, and (5) advocating the development, enjoyment, respect and appreciation for an American Cultural Tradition, a National Treasure, a highly intellectual and deeply spiritual 'performing art.'........ Jazz.
